This month I caught up with Althea, founder of super cool fashion brand Modern Kid Shop, to hear more about her online childrens boutique and running a small business.
Althea, 28, lives in Hertfordshire with husband Jody and sons, Asher, 6 and Isaac, 4.
Tell us a little about Modern Kid Shop
We began modern kid shop just over a year ago. We were big fans of monochrome tees with fun slogans and really the business just grew from there!
A lot of inspiration is drawn from similar small buisness with a love of monochrome but also we are really inspired by children them selves and reaffirming their place in the world. We are big believers in promoting positivity and kindness!
I would say my favourite item from the new range is our 'kind people are my kids people' tshirt. I love the hand drawn style of writing and also the message behind the slogan!
What advice would you give to someone starting a fashion brand?
I would say it's really important to grow a little team of brand reps/ supporters that can help to promote your buisness on social media and to also try and connect with other similar businesses. It can some times feel like a lonely place doing it on your own!
And the biggest challenge?
I'd say the biggest challenge has actually been believing in my self/brand. I quite easily doubt my own abilities and in turn that can affect
how far I push my self out of my comfort zone But I'm slowly getting better at believing in myself and having such loyal and kind customers and supporters definitely helps.
I'm not going to lie I'm a shoot and hope for the best kind of style. Some might call it 'winging it'
What can we expect next from Modern Kid Shop?
We're planning on realising a hoody later on in the year and to also expand our decor range next year, along with more monochrome tees of course!
You can buy the range on our online web shop
